How to Use a Timecard Calculator

Enter Your Start and End Times

For each day of the week, enter when you clocked in and when you clocked out. The calculator uses your device's native time picker, so you can tap or type times quickly. Leave any day blank if you didn't work.

Add Break Time

Enter your unpaid break time in minutes for each day. Most workers take a 30-minute lunch break, but you can enter any amount. The calculator subtracts break time from your total hours automatically.

Overnight and Split Shifts

If your shift crosses midnight — say you clock in at 10 PM and clock out at 6 AM — the calculator handles it correctly. It recognizes that the end time is earlier than the start time and calculates the hours across midnight.

Optional Hourly Rate

Enter your hourly rate to see your gross pay for the week. This is a simple multiplication of your total hours by your rate — no overtime or tax calculations are applied. For overtime breakdowns, use our overtime calculator.

Copy, Clear, and Print

If you work the same schedule most days, enter Monday's times and hit "Copy Mon to empty days" to fill in the rest of the week. "Clear all" resets every field. "Print" gives you a clean printout of your timecard — handy for submitting hours to your employer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the timecard calculator.

How do I enter my hours?

Click or tap the start and end time fields for each day. On mobile, your device's time picker will appear. On desktop, you can type the time directly (e.g., 09:00) or use the picker. Leave days blank if you didn't work.

What if I work an overnight shift?

Enter your start time as normal (e.g., 22:00) and your end time the next morning (e.g., 06:00). The calculator detects that the end time is before the start time and treats it as an overnight shift spanning midnight.

What does "Copy Mon to empty days" do?

It copies Monday's start time, end time, and break to any day that doesn't have times entered yet. Days you've already filled in won't be changed. It's a fast way to fill a regular schedule.

Does this calculator track overtime?

No. This calculator totals your hours and calculates gross pay at a flat rate. It doesn't apply overtime multipliers or thresholds. For overtime calculations, use our overtime pay calculator.

Can I print my timecard?

Yes. Click the "Print" button to open your browser's print dialog. The printed version shows only the timecard and results — navigation, ads, and other page elements are hidden automatically.

What is the break deduction?

The break field lets you enter unpaid break time in minutes for each day. This is subtracted from your total hours. For example, an 8-hour shift with a 30-minute break gives you 7.5 hours of paid time.

How is gross pay calculated?

Gross pay is your total weekly hours multiplied by your hourly rate. No taxes, overtime, or deductions are applied. It's the amount before any withholding. For take-home pay estimates, download Hours44.
